SUPERVISOR: Business Development Manager

WORKPLACE: Toronto or Montreal

JOB TYPE: Internship, full-time (35hours/week for 16 weeks)

REQUIREMENTS: Must be enrolled in a college/university program that requires an internship (possibility of Graduate level university credit)

LANGUAGES: English and French (fully bilingual)

SALARY RANGE: Weekly stipend – $400

Position overview

Crossroads International is looking for a committed and dynamic person to support the program team in the process of designing and developing international development project proposals for submission to public and private institutional donors.

THE POSITION

• Ensure that all areas of responsibility are executed in accordance with the organization’s mission, values, policies and procedures, standards and systems;
• Work in partnership with program and finance team members to achieve organizational goals as defined in strategic and operational plans.

main responsibilities

Under the Business Development Manager’s supervision, the candidate will work in a participatory manner and in collaboration with the program team members to:

• Contribute to the development of project proposals and concept notes for submission to institutional funders;
• Conduct thematic research to support the theory of change for project proposals for sub-Saharan Africa, including on violence against women and girls, sexual and reproductive health and rights, food security, poverty, economic empowerment of women and girls, youth employability, natural solutions climate change adaptation in the agroecological sector.
• Contribute to the drafting of communication tools on projects and programming in our countries of intervention, used to support communications with funders and potential partners;
• Gather statistics and data to support proposal development;

Contribute to thematic context analyzes particularly for Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania and Togo.

Education, Qualifications and Experience:

• Master’s level student or recent graduate in international development, feminist studies, international project management, international relations, human rights, or any other relevant field (recent graduate or possibility of graduate level university credit);
• Experience in research and thematic contextual analysis for sub-Saharan African countries in Crossroads’ sectors of intervention, particularly the rights of women and girls, economic empowerment of women and girls, gender-based violence, agroecology and climate change adaptation;
• Proven writing skills in French and English.

Assets

• Knowledge of Results Based Management (RBM) tools;
• Knowledge of the policies and programs of Canadian and Quebec public funders including Global Affairs Canada (GAC), the Québec sans Frontières (QSF) program and the Programme de coopération climatique internationale (PCCI);
• Knowledge of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy;
• Knowledge of the feminist and human rights-based approaches to development.
• Office 365 suite (including SharePoint);
• Autonomy, resourcefulness and adaptability;
• Strong prioritization skills;
• Attention to detail and efficiency.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND ESSENTIAL CONDITIONS

• Share Crossroads’ values and ethical standards, particularly:
  • A commitment to preventing, mitigating and responding to sexual violence,
  • A commitment to gender equality, and
  • A commitment to anti-racism.
• To work an average of 35 hours per week, where some overtime may be required
• Infrequent travel in Canada and overseas may be required
